The organisation is seeking a reliable and professional Driver to support field operations by ensuring safe transportation of staff, authorised passengers, documents, and project materials while maintaining high standards of vehicle safety and accountability.

Job Summary

The Driver will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for World Vision Uganda staff, authorised passengers, project materials, and official documents.
The successful candidate will ensure proper vehicle maintenance, compliance with road safety regulations, accurate travel documentation, and adherence to World Vision vehicle policies.
This role requires strong driving skills, professionalism, basic mechanical knowledge, and the ability to work effectively in humanitarian and field environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safe Transportation Services
  • Drive World Vision vehicles and authorised passengers to approved destinations.
  • Ensure safe and timely transportation of staff, visitors, packages, goods, and official documents.
  • Follow approved travel routes and organisational transport procedures.
  • Ensure passenger safety throughout all journeys.
  • Support field project activities through reliable transportation services.
2. Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before starting journeys.
  • Check vehicle condition including:
    • Engine oil levels
    • Water levels
    • Battery condition
    • Brake systems
    • Tyre pressure
    • Vehicle licence and insurance documents
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance including:
    • Tightening bolts and nuts.
    • Topping up battery water.
    • Correcting minor vehicle faults.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the assigned vehicle.
  • Report mechanical issues, damages, and accidents to the supervisor immediately.
3. Vehicle Safety and Security
  • Ensure the safety and security of passengers, vehicle, and luggage.
  • Follow World Vision vehicle usage policies.
  • Observe national traffic laws and road safety regulations.
  • Maintain approved speed limits at all times.
  • Ensure vehicles are parked in designated areas after use.
  • Report any security concerns affecting transportation activities.
4. Travel Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate vehicle movement records.
  • Record:
    • Travel destinations
    • Mileage
    • Travel time
    • Working hours
  • Prepare and submit monthly vehicle reports.
  • Maintain proper transport documentation according to World Vision policies.
5. Logistics and Field Support
  • Deliver packages, goods, and correspondence to designated locations.
  • Support project teams during field activities.
  • Assist with emergency response transportation when required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:
  • Minimum of O-Level Certificate.
  • Valid driving permit.
  • At least three (3) years of driving experience.
  • Driving permit classes:
    • Class B
    • Class D1
    • Any Class C category is an added advantage.
    • Class A1 is an added advantage.
  • Certificate in Defensive Driving from a recognised driving school.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • First Aid skills.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Knowledge of national road safety rules and regulations.
  • Experience working with NGOs or humanitarian organisations is an added advantage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and local languages.
