Job Summary
dfcu Bank is seeking an experienced and highly analytical professional to provide end-to-end credit risk oversight and portfolio management for its digital lending products across retail, commercial, and enterprise segments.
The role is responsible for ensuring sustainable portfolio growth, strong asset quality, regulatory compliance, and advanced credit decisioning using data analytics, credit scoring models, and digital lending platforms.

Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Risk Management
The role holder will monitor and manage digital lending portfolio performance including personal micro loans, overdrafts, and unsecured SME digital credit products.
Key metrics to be tracked include PAR, NPL, roll rates, vintage analysis, early warning indicators, first payment defaults, delinquency trends, and write-offs.
The role involves recommending and implementing portfolio optimization strategies to ensure asset quality remains within the bank’s risk appetite.
Credit Policy Development & Governance
The position requires development, review, and continuous enhancement of digital lending credit policies, underwriting standards, and risk acceptance criteria.
The role includes designing scorecard cut-offs, decision rules, exposure limits, and ensuring alignment between pricing, risk appetite, and credit policies.
Approval of exceptions within delegated authority and escalation of high-risk exposures is also required.
Credit Scoring & Data Analytics
The role involves oversight of credit scoring model validation, recalibration, and performance monitoring for digital lending products.
The candidate will leverage alternative data sources such as telco, mobile money, and behavioral data to improve credit decisioning.
Advanced analytics will be used to enhance approval rates while maintaining strong portfolio quality.
Early Warning & Collections Coordination
The role holder will establish early warning systems to detect risk in digital lending portfolios.
Monitoring of early delinquency, first payment defaults, and forward roll rates will be required to trigger corrective actions.
The role will work closely with Collections teams to optimize recovery and cure rates.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Governance
Ensure full compliance with Bank of Uganda regulations, IFRS 9 standards, consumer protection laws, data privacy regulations, and digital lending guidelines.
Support internal and external audits and ensure proper documentation and audit trails for automated credit decisions.
Digital Lending Systems & Automation
Work closely with technology and innovation teams to configure and optimize Loan Origination Systems (LOS), decision engines, credit bureau integrations, and fraud prevention systems.
Drive automation of credit processes while maintaining strong risk controls and governance frameworks.
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
Prepare and present monthly portfolio risk reports to senior management and credit committees.
Develop dashboards covering portfolio quality, approval trends, scorecard performance, and vintage analysis.
Provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
Act as the primary credit risk advisor for digital lending initiatives across the bank.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Business, or related field
  • Relevant professional certifications are an added advantage

Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in digital lending, fintech, or financial services
  • Experience in retail micro-lending, SME unsecured lending, or instant credit products
  • Strong background in credit risk, portfolio analytics, and lending product development
  • Experience working with digital lending platforms and credit systems
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Excel and SQL skills
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools
  • Python knowledge is an added advantage
  • Strong understanding of credit scoring models and digital lending systems
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and a deep understanding of digital credit risk management.
Excellent communication skills are required to translate complex data insights into actionable business decisions.
The role demands high attention to detail, strong regulatory awareness, and the ability to balance commercial growth with credit risk discipline.
