Job Summary – Country General Manager Uganda

The Country General Manager will provide overall strategic and operational leadership for Lemala Camps & Lodges’ Uganda business.
The successful candidate will oversee safari camps, lodges, destination management operations, activities, and support functions, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, strong financial performance, compliance, and sustainable business growth.
This senior leadership role requires an experienced hospitality professional with strong knowledge of tourism operations, lodge management, financial management, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities of the Country General Manager

1. Strategic Leadership and Business Growth
  • Execute the company’s strategic objectives across Uganda operations.
  • Translate Group strategies into effective country-level business plans.
  • Identify opportunities for business expansion and improved market positioning.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance operational performance and profitability.
  • Support long-term growth strategies within Uganda’s tourism sector.
2. Hospitality and Operations Management
  • Oversee all camps, lodges, DMC operations, activities, and support services.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of exceptional guest experiences.
  • Maintain high standards in hospitality, service quality, and property presentation.
  • Improve operational efficiency across all business units.
  • Implement systems and processes that strengthen service delivery.
3. Financial Management and Commercial Performance
  • Monitor business performance against financial targets.
  • Oversee budgets, cost control, procurement, stock management, and CAPEX planning.
  • Drive revenue growth and profitability across operations.
  • Review financial reports and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Ensure effective resource utilization and financial accountability.
4. Sales, Marketing and Business Partnerships
  • Support commercial strategies to increase market presence.
  • Build strong relationships with tourism partners, travel agents, and industry stakeholders.
  • Support sales initiatives and customer acquisition strategies.
  • Strengthen relationships with key trade partners.
  • Promote Lemala’s brand positioning within Uganda and international markets.
5. Leadership and Team Development
  • Build and lead a high-performing management team.
  • Develop leadership capacity through coaching and mentorship.
  • Support staff training, succession planning, and employee engagement.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and excellence.
  • Ensure effective human resource practices across operations.
6. Sustainability, Conservation and Community Engagement
  • Support responsible tourism initiatives.
  • Oversee conservation and sustainability programs.
  • Build positive relationships with local communities.
  • Engage with government authorities, tourism organizations, and industry bodies.
  • Promote environmentally responsible business practices.
7. Governance, Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with Ugandan laws, tourism regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain strong governance and operational controls.
  • Ensure workplace safety standards are followed.
  • Identify and manage operational, financial, and reputational risks.
  • Prepare regular performance reports for senior management.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Tourism, Finance, or a related field.
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in East African hospitality or tourism operations.
  • Proven experience managing safari camps, lodges, resorts, or multi-site hospitality businesses.
  • Strong understanding of luxury tourism and guest experience management.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial performance, and operational improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
