We’re Hiring | Content Gap Analyst (Consultancy)
JOB SUMMARY
Wikimedia User Group Uganda is seeking a strategic, research-driven, and highly analytical Content Gap Analyst for a specialized consultancy role. The consultant will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and finalizing systemic content gaps on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects related to Uganda. This critical research will directly inform future editing campaigns, community outreach, and global knowledge equity initiatives aimed at bringing underrepresented Ugandan history, culture, and achievements to the world.

Our mission is to promote, grow, and support the open-source movement in Uganda by expanding access to free knowledge. We work closely with volunteers, cultural institutions, and educators to ensure that Ugandan perspectives and knowledge are accurately represented, preserved, and made accessible globally.
OPEN POSITION & DETAILS
  • Job Title: Content Gap Analyst (Consultancy)

Key Responsibilities
  • Gap Identification: Audit and analyze existing Wikimedia projects (including Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons) to pinpoint missing or underrepresented topics regarding Uganda.
  • Data & Topic Research: Research historical, cultural, geographical, and biographical areas of Ugandan knowledge that lack high-quality online representation.
  • Strategic Reporting: Finalize comprehensive data reports detailing content gaps to guide targeted community writing and editing campaigns.
  • Knowledge Equity Support: Align research frameworks with global Wikimedia knowledge equity goals, ensuring marginalized or undocumented narratives are prioritized.
  • Actionable Insights: Provide data-driven recommendations on how to structure future programmatic initiatives and volunteer training workshops.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Strong experience in qualitative/quantitative research, data analysis, or information management.
  • Deep familiarity with the Wikimedia ecosystem (Wikipedia editing, structural policies, and backend tracking tools) is highly advantageous.
  • Excellent understanding of Ugandan history, socio-cultural contexts, and contemporary local issues.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex open-source data into clear, actionable reports.
  • High level of self-direction, analytical thinking, and a commitment to open access and free education.
