Job Summary
Soroti Secondary School is looking for a dedicated Bus Attendant to assist in the safe transportation of students by supporting the bus driver during daily operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for passenger safety, vehicle cleanliness, luggage management, and assisting with bus manoeuvres such as parking and turning. The ideal applicant should demonstrate excellent communication skills, basic vehicle maintenance knowledge, and a strong commitment to student safety.
This position is ideal for individuals with experience in school transport, passenger management, vehicle maintenance, or transport support services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections and daily maintenance checks before every journey.
  • Assist the driver in ensuring the bus is roadworthy before departure.
  • Open, close, and monitor passenger doors during boarding and alighting.
  • Manage student luggage and ensure boots are securely closed.
  • Guide the driver safely while reversing, turning, and parking.
  • Help control safe stopping and departure procedures.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all passengers throughout the journey.
  • Monitor student behaviour while on board the school bus.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene inside the bus.
  • Report mechanical issues or safety concerns to management promptly.
  • Support emergency procedures whenever required.
  • Ensure compliance with school transport safety regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent qualification.
  • Credit pass in English Language.
  • Basic knowledge of motor vehicle mechanics.
  • Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics or Trade Test Certificate is an added advantage.
  • Valid driving permit (appropriate class).
  • First Aid Certificate is an added advantage.
  • Age between 25 and 35 years.
