The company is seeking a qualified Analyst – Security Operations to strengthen its cybersecurity operations and protect critical systems, networks, and information assets.

Job Summary

The Analyst – Security Operations will be responsible for safeguarding MTN Uganda's digital infrastructure by continuously monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity threats and incidents.
The successful candidate will implement information security controls, ensure compliance with security standards and organizational policies, support security operations, and contribute to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of MTN's critical systems and data.

Key Responsibilities

Cybersecurity Operations
  • Continuously monitor systems for cybersecurity threats and security incidents.
  • Participate actively in MTN Uganda's Cyber Security Operations activities.
  • Detect, investigate, and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.
  • Support continuous improvement of the organization's security posture.
Security Compliance and Governance
  • Ensure network systems comply with organizational policies, industry regulations, and security standards.
  • Ensure compliance with MTN Group Information Security (GIS) policies.
  • Implement and maintain information security controls.
  • Support compliance with ISO 27001 information security standards.
Audit and Risk Management
  • Track closure of internal and external audit findings within the Network Group.
  • Conduct audits of installed network hardware.
  • Identify security risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Maintain documentation supporting compliance and audit requirements.
Change Management
  • Provide leadership during network change approval processes.
  • Ensure compliance with change management procedures.
  • Liaise with the IT Change Advisory Board (CAB) to ensure visibility of infrastructure changes.
  • Monitor security impacts of network modifications.
Vendor and SLA Management
  • Coordinate Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with external suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensure vendors meet agreed security and operational standards.
  • Monitor third-party compliance with security requirements.
Process Improvement
  • Review and improve network security processes and procedures.
  • Conduct research to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Promote best practices in cybersecurity and operational excellence.

Education Requirements

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Information Systems
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Telecommunications Engineering
  • Or another related field.

Professional Certifications

The following certifications are highly desirable:
  • Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • CompTIA Security+
  • GIAC Certifications
  • Other recognized cybersecurity certifications

Experience Requirements

Applicants should have:
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in cybersecurity, network security, or information security.
  • Experience using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms.
  • Experience with:
    • Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
    • Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
    • Firewalls
    • Endpoint Security
    • Encryption Technologies
    • Security Monitoring Tools
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Experience responding to cybersecurity incidents.
  • Knowledge of network security best practices and cyber risk management.

Key Skills Required

Cybersecurity Operations
Ability to monitor, detect, analyze, and respond to cyber threats and security incidents.
Security Monitoring
Experience working with SIEM solutions, security analytics, endpoint protection, and threat detection tools.
Network Security
Knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, encryption technologies, and secure network design.
Risk Assessment
Ability to identify vulnerabilities, evaluate risks, and implement security controls.
Process Improvement
Ability to develop and improve operational processes while ensuring compliance with security standards.
Communication and Leadership
Strong communication, negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
