NiDEC provides consulting services in agribusiness development, investment advisory, trade facilitation, cooperative strengthening, market systems development, enterprise development, and capacity building. The organization is seeking a motivated Agribusiness Value-Chain Associate to support the implementation of agribusiness projects across Uganda.

Job Summary

The Agribusiness Value-Chain Associate will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of agribusiness and value chain development projects. The successful candidate will conduct value chain assessments, strengthen producer organizations and cooperatives, facilitate market linkages, and contribute to research and business development initiatives that improve agricultural productivity, competitiveness, and market access.
This role requires strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as a willingness to travel extensively across Uganda to work with farmers, cooperatives, agribusinesses, development partners, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Value Chain Development
  • Support value chain assessments for selected agricultural commodities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, competitiveness, and profitability within agricultural value chains.
  • Conduct value chain mapping and market systems analysis.
  • Assist in developing interventions that strengthen agricultural markets.
Market Linkages & Business Development
  • Facilitate market linkages between producers, cooperatives, processors, buyers, exporters, and financial institutions.
  • Support agribusiness enterprises in accessing new markets.
  • Assist farmers in improving product quality and market readiness.
  • Promote sustainable agribusiness partnerships.
Cooperative Development & Capacity Building
  • Strengthen farmer cooperatives and producer organizations through technical support and training.
  • Organize capacity-building workshops for farmer groups and agribusiness stakeholders.
  • Support governance, leadership, and business management initiatives within cooperatives.
  • Promote inclusive participation among women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
Research & Project Support
  • Conduct agricultural market research and value chain studies.
  • Collect and analyze field data for project reporting.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Support proposal development and consulting assignments.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build strong working relationships with government agencies, NGOs, private sector organizations, development partners, and local communities.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and field visits.
  • Represent NiDEC professionally during project activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with project beneficiaries and partners.
Monitoring & Reporting
  • Monitor project implementation and field activities.
  • Collect data to measure project performance and outcomes.
  • Prepare progress reports and recommendations.
  • Ensure timely submission of project documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Agribusiness, Economics, Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working with cooperatives, farmer groups, or producer organizations.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Uganda.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural value chains and rural development.
