Job Summary – Advocacy Associate

The Advocacy Associate – Tororo will support and advance survivor leadership by coordinating strategic initiatives, advising cross-regional teams, and sharing trauma-informed resources.
The role ensures that survivor voices are incorporated into IJM programs, advocacy efforts, and public engagement activities while promoting survivor empowerment and organizational strategy alignment.
The successful candidate will work with internal teams, survivors, community partners, and justice stakeholders to strengthen survivor-centered approaches.

Key Responsibilities

Survivor Leadership Coordination
The Advocacy Associate will:
  • Review and align regional survivor group strategies with the Global Survivor Network framework.
  • Support implementation of survivor leadership initiatives.
  • Promote survivor participation in advocacy activities.
  • Monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support survivor empowerment approaches across IJM programs.
Advocacy Training and Workshops
Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate and oversee Advocacy & Power of Story workshops.
  • Ensure trauma-informed and culturally appropriate training delivery.
  • Facilitate workshops and learning sessions.
  • Support safe spaces where survivors can share experiences.
  • Promote effective communication and survivor engagement.
Program Tools and Resource Development
The role will:
  • Support development of survivor leadership tools.
  • Review program resources and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collect feedback from teams and stakeholders.
  • Improve usability and impact of advocacy resources.
Professional Development and Knowledge Sharing

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Community Psychology, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in:
    • Social work.
    • Counseling.
    • Survivor support.
    • Community development.
    • Advocacy programming.
Preferred experience:
  • Working with survivors of sexual violence or traumatic experiences.
  • Supporting women and children affected by violence.
  • Trauma-informed case management.
  • Working with social service providers.
  • Coaching and training experience.
  • Experience with Uganda’s criminal justice system.
