About Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE)

The Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE) was established on 5th July 2024 under Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2024 pursuant to the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, Cap 262 as an Other Degree Awarding Institution (ODAI).
UNITE is accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and serves as Uganda's national institution responsible for coordinating and delivering teacher education from initial teacher preparation to postgraduate training. The institute also provides Continuous Professional Development (CPD), in-service teacher education, educational research, and capacity-building programs aimed at improving the quality of education nationwide.
UNITE operates multiple campuses located in:
  • Kabale
  • Kaliro
  • Mubende
  • Muni
  • Unyama
Its headquarters are located in Kira Municipality, formerly Shimoni Core Primary Teachers' College.

Job Summary

Successful candidates will support UNITE's mission of delivering quality teacher education, strengthening institutional governance, enhancing administrative efficiency, improving research and innovation, supporting ICT services, maintaining institutional assets, and providing effective student and campus support services.
Depending on the position applied for, employees will contribute to academic excellence, financial management, research, administration, health services, ICT support, records management, security, transport, and institutional operations.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary according to the position but may include:
Academic Positions
  • Deliver lectures and practical instruction.

Age Requirements

Applicants must meet the following age requirements:

  • Maximum 55 years for the position of Dean of Students.

Terms of Appointment

  • Positions under Salary Scales PU1–PU3 are offered on contract.
  • Positions under Salary Scales PU4–PU15 are permanent, subject to successful completion of a six-month probation period.
