Welder Jobs at Namekara Mining Company Ltd – Manafwa, Eastern Uganda

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand project requirements.
• Measuring, cutting, and shaping metal components using hand tools, plasma cutters, and metal cutting machines.
• Joining metal components through welding, riveting, bolting, and other fastening methods.
• Operating and maintaining welding equipment safely and efficiently.
• Performing different welding techniques including MIG welding, TIG welding, stick welding, and arc welding.
• Inspecting completed welds to identify defects and ensure proper penetration, fusion, and compliance with quality standards.
• Applying knowledge of metallurgy and material properties to select suitable welding methods.
• Maintaining clean work areas and following company housekeeping standards.
• Conducting regular checks on welding equipment and tools to ensure safe operation.
• Working collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, project managers, and other team members.
• Reporting equipment faults, safety concerns, and workplace hazards promptly.
• Following Namekara Mining Company safety procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and occupational health requirements.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Proficiency in multiple welding methods including:
  • MIG welding
  • TIG welding
  • Stick welding
  • Arc welding
• Ability to operate welding machines and specialized tools.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding specifications.
• Knowledge of metal properties, materials, and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to inspect weld quality and identify faults.

• Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures.
• Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, and safety goggles.
• Ability to maintain a safe working environment and prevent workplace accidents.

• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding environments.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when required.

Qualifications and Experience

• High school education or equivalent qualification.
• Specialized welding training from a recognized vocational or technical institution.
• Welding certification or apprenticeship training is highly desirable.
• At least 3 years of previous welding experience.
• Previous experience working in mining, construction, fabrication, or industrial environments is an added advantage.
• Practical knowledge of welding methods and techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (spoken and written).
• Must be physically fit to perform welding and fabrication duties.
