About Uzima Chicken Uganda

Uzima Chicken Uganda is a social enterprise dedicated to making smallholder farmers healthier and wealthier through the distribution of improved chicken breeds that are significantly more productive than traditional local breeds.
The company's improved chicken breed produces approximately four times more eggs and meat than local breeds while requiring the same level of care and management. A flock of ten improved chickens can generate an estimated UGX 270,000 net profit increase for a smallholder household, helping families improve income resilience, pay school fees, and increase access to animal protein.
Uzima Chicken aims to reach every rural household in Uganda by 2030 and become the leading smallholder-focused poultry enterprise in East Africa. The organization has attracted investment from leading development partners, including AgDevCo, Acumen, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Uzima prioritizes the recruitment and development of Ugandan talent and provides strong opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. The organization is also committed to gender equality and female empowerment, with women comprising approximately 40% of its workforce.
