JOB TITLE: PROSTHETICS & ORTHOTICS TECHNICAL OFFICER / REHABILITATION SPECIALIST

Reports To: Project Manager / Technical Lead
Salary: UGX 4,958,224 – 5,232,778
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Humanity & Inclusion (HI), co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, is an independent international NGO working in situations of poverty, conflict, and disaster. The organization supports persons with disabilities and vulnerable populations through inclusive humanitarian and development programs across sectors such as rehabilitation, mental health, inclusive education, and inclusive humanitarian action.
In Uganda, HI implements integrated rehabilitation and child development programs, including innovative 3D prosthetics and orthotics solutions aimed at improving mobility, independence, and quality of life for children and persons with disabilities.
JOB PURPOSE
The Prosthetics & Orthotics Technical Officer will provide technical leadership and clinical oversight in the delivery of high-quality rehabilitation services, including prosthetic and orthotic interventions. The role ensures effective implementation of 3D rehabilitation technologies, assistive devices, and community-based rehabilitation services while maintaining compliance with clinical standards, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clinical Leadership & Rehabilitation Management
  • Provide technical oversight in prosthetics and orthotics assessment, planning, and rehabilitation
  • Validate clinical prescriptions and approve assistive device specifications
  • Supervise the full rehabilitation pathway from assessment to follow-up care
  • Ensure quality of functional and biomechanical assessments
2. 3D Rehabilitation & Assistive Technology Services
  • Oversee 3D scanning, CAD/CAM design, and fabrication of assistive devices
  • Ensure proper fitting, adjustment, and user training for prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Provide technical mentorship to rehabilitation teams and technicians
  • Support innovation in 3D printing and assistive technology solutions
3. Project Implementation & Community Engagement
  • Supervise rehabilitation activities at Katalemwa Cheshire Home and outreach sites
  • Coordinate community-based rehabilitation and home follow-ups
  • Engage with OPDs, health facilities, and local authorities
  • Represent the project in technical and stakeholder meetings
4. Quality Assurance & Performance Monitoring
  • Establish and monitor quality assurance systems for rehabilitation services
  • Conduct clinical supervision, audits, and performance evaluations
  • Monitor beneficiary outcomes using standardized tools
  • Implement continuous improvement and corrective action plans
5. Reporting, Data Management & Compliance
  • Ensure accurate documentation of beneficiary and service data
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and donor reports
  • Support MEAL activities and evidence-based decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, donor, and organizational standards
6. Emergency & Organizational Compliance
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness and response activities
  • Ensure adherence to HI code of conduct, safeguarding policies, and ethics
  • Maintain donor visibility and organizational branding standards
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Diploma in Prosthetics & Orthotics Science (mandatory) OR Degree in Orthopaedics with Postgraduate Diploma in P&O
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Prosthetics & Orthotics practitioner
  • Experience in clinical rehabilitation or project management
  • Knowledge of CAD technologies and orthotics/prosthetics systems
  • Experience in 3D printing technology (preferred)
  • Experience in humanitarian or NGO settings (added advantage)
