Transport Officer (Driver) – Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC)

Job Title
Transport Officer (Driver) – 2 Positions
Reports To
Human Resource Business Partner
Role Overview
The Transport Officer (Driver) is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation services to staff and authorized personnel while ensuring proper maintenance, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of the Centre’s vehicles. The role also supports administrative operations through document delivery, event logistics, and compliance with organizational policies and Uganda's traffic regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Services
  • Provide safe and punctual transportation for staff, visitors, and authorized personnel.
  • Execute official errands and deliveries efficiently and professionally.
  • Ensure passengers reach destinations safely and on time.
Vehicle Operations and Maintenance
  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections, including checking tyres, oil, water, brakes, lights, and battery condition.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness, safety, and security at all times.
  • Monitor vehicle performance and report mechanical faults promptly.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and servicing schedules.
Record Keeping and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks and mileage records.
  • Track fuel consumption and prepare monthly vehicle monitoring reports.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and operational expenses.
Compliance and Safety
  • Strictly adhere to Uganda road traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Practice defensive driving techniques to ensure the safety of passengers and property.
  • Ensure all vehicle documentation, insurance, and licenses remain valid.
Administrative Support
  • Assist with mail collection and delivery.
  • Support office administration through filing, photocopying, and document distribution.
  • Provide logistical support during meetings, workshops, and organizational events.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Advanced Level Certificate (A-Level) or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid and clean Driver’s License for operating public vehicles beyond Class B.
  • Proven experience as a professional driver.
  • Certificate in General Mechanical Engineering or Defensive Driving is an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of Uganda traffic laws and road safety regulations.
  • Defensive driving and vehicle maintenance skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and reliability.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and during stressful driving situations.
