Job Summary

The Programme Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic leadership, coordination, oversight, and accountability for Sponsorship Program Area Development (SPAD) projects. The role ensures quality program implementation, effective financial management, compliance, stakeholder engagement, partnership management, and achievement of program objectives.
The position provides leadership to project implementation teams across Programme Areas while ensuring alignment with organizational strategies, gender-transformative programming, safeguarding standards, and donor requirements.
The Programme Coordinator will be based in Northern Programme Area (Lira) and provide direct support to SPAD implementation while coordinating with teams in East Central and West Nile Programme Areas.

Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Leadership & Strategic Management
  • Provide strategic direction for Sponsorship Program Area Development (SPAD) projects.
  • Ensure high-quality program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Lead project planning, execution, and performance management.
  • Drive achievement of program goals, objectives, and results.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational priorities and country strategy.
2. Project Management & Delivery
  • Coordinate implementation of sponsorship-funded programs.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure timely delivery of activities.
  • Address operational challenges and provide practical solutions.
  • Strengthen project effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Support adaptive management in dynamic operating environments.
3. Financial Management & Compliance
  • Ensure proper utilization of project resources and budgets.
  • Monitor expenditure and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and organizational policies.
  • Strengthen accountability and financial controls.
  • Support audits and compliance reviews.
4. Team Leadership & Capacity Building
  • Provide leadership and supervision to project teams.
  • Build staff capacity through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Support staff development and continuous learning.
5. Sponsorship Programme Coordination
  • Oversee sponsorship-funded program activities.
  • Ensure sponsorship commitments are effectively implemented.
  • Monitor sponsorship performance indicators and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain quality standards across all sponsorship interventions.
6. Stakeholder & Partnership Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government institutions.
  • Collaborate with implementing partners, NGOs, community structures, and development agencies.
  • Strengthen engagement with local leaders and community stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in coordination meetings and forums.
7. Child Protection & Safeguarding
  • Ensure compliance with child safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Promote protection of children and program participants.
  • Strengthen gender-transformative programming approaches.
  • Ensure all project activities adhere to safeguarding standards.
8. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
  • Track project performance and impact indicators.
  • Prepare quality narrative and performance reports.
  • Support data collection, analysis, and utilization.
  • Promote evidence-based decision making.
9. Cross-Programme Coordination
  • Coordinate activities across Northern, East Central, and West Nile Programme Areas.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning among project teams.
  • Strengthen collaboration between field teams and country office departments.
  • Support integrated programming approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Development Studies
    • Social Sciences
    • Project Management
    • Public Administration
    • Community Development
    • International Development
    • Or a related discipline
  • Postgraduate qualification in Project Management, Development Studies, Monitoring & Evaluation, or related field is an added advantage.

Required Experience

  • Significant experience in development and humanitarian programming.
  • Experience managing large-scale donor-funded projects.
  • Experience in sponsorship program management.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, government institutions, and community structures.
  • Experience in financial and grant management.
  • Experience working in child-focused development programs.
