COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Restless Development Uganda
 Location: Moroto, Karamoja, Uganda
Salary: UGX 510,000 per month

Contract Duration: 6 Months
Reports To: Communications Officer
Travel Requirement: Regular travel within Karamoja and other parts of Uganda

Position Summary

The Communications Intern will support the implementation of Restless Development Uganda’s communications and social media strategies, particularly under the Youth Inclusion in Governance and Decision Making (YIGA) Project. The role involves social media management, content creation, photography, videography, graphic design, community engagement, branding, storytelling, and supporting digital campaigns that showcase project impact.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Communications Officer and project teams to strengthen online visibility, stakeholder engagement, and youth participation through effective communication initiatives.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Social Media Management (50%)
  • Support management of the Youth Inclusion in Governance and Decision Making (YIGA) project social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Officer to implement social media strategies and campaigns.
  • Support content scheduling, publishing, monitoring, and audience engagement across social media channels.
  • Work with project teams to execute channel-specific communication campaigns.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the organization's Communications Strategy.
  • Monitor social media performance and recommend improvements to increase engagement and reach.
Content Development (40%)
  • Capture high-quality photographs from field activities and community engagements.
  • Produce and edit engaging video content for external audiences.
  • Develop compelling stories of change highlighting project impact and beneficiary experiences.
  • Write, design, and produce communication materials for digital and print platforms.
  • Design creative branding materials and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Support social media boosting and content promotion initiatives.
  • Create multimedia content that aligns with organizational branding guidelines.
Community Engagement & Mobilization (5%)
  • Support community outreach and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Build positive relationships with youth groups, project participants, and local stakeholders.
  • Assist in mobilizing communities during project events and campaigns.
  • Promote youth participation and inclusion through communication initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities (5%)
  • Perform any other duties assigned within the Communications Hub.
  • Support special communication campaigns and organizational events.
  • Occasionally work during weekends and public holidays when required.
  • Contribute to team initiatives and organizational priorities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, Media Studies, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Must be a resident and native of Moroto, Karamoja.
  • Fluency in Ngakarimojong language is mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within project areas.
  • Experience in photography, videography, and content production.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Knowledge of social media management and digital communication platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
