Position Summary

The Governance and Accountability Officer will support the implementation of governance and accountability interventions aimed at strengthening inclusive, transparent, and responsive governance systems. The role involves stakeholder engagement, citizen participation, institutional capacity building, social accountability promotion, project monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management.
The successful candidate will work closely with government institutions, civil society organizations, local communities, and development partners to improve governance practices, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and enhance public service delivery for sustainable development outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Governance & Accountability Program Implementation
  • Support the implementation of governance and accountability interventions across project areas.
  • Coordinate activities that strengthen transparency, accountability, and responsive governance systems.
  • Promote citizen participation and inclusive governance processes.
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving public service delivery and institutional effectiveness.
  • Ensure project activities align with organizational objectives and development priorities.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with:
    • Government Institutions
    • Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)
    • Community Groups
    • Development Partners
    • Local Leaders
    • Project Stakeholders
  • Promote collaboration and inclusive participation among stakeholders.
  • Facilitate stakeholder consultations, meetings, workshops, and engagement forums.
  • Strengthen partnerships that support governance and accountability objectives.
Citizen Participation & Social Accountability
  • Support initiatives that encourage active citizen engagement in governance processes.
  • Promote social accountability mechanisms to strengthen transparency and responsiveness.
  • Facilitate community participation in planning, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
  • Support feedback and accountability systems between citizens and public institutions.
  • Encourage inclusive participation of marginalized and vulnerable groups.
Technical Support & Capacity Building
  • Provide technical guidance on governance and accountability programming.
  • Support partner institutions with tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs.
  • Strengthen institutional capacities in governance, transparency, and accountability.
  • Support communities in understanding governance processes and accountability frameworks.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
  • Monitor project implementation and track progress against established objectives.
  • Collect, analyze, and document project data and results.
  • Prepare periodic reports on project performance and outcomes.
  • Track governance and accountability indicators.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities to measure project impact and effectiveness.
Knowledge Management & Learning
  • Document lessons learned, success stories, and best practices.
  • Support knowledge-sharing initiatives across project teams and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through evidence-based recommendations.
  • Promote learning and innovation within governance and accountability programs.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
Institutional Strengthening & Service Delivery Improvement
  • Support interventions that strengthen institutional governance systems.
  • Promote accountability mechanisms that improve public service delivery.
  • Assist institutions in developing sustainable governance practices.
  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance transparency, effectiveness, and responsiveness.
  • Support long-term institutional development and sustainability efforts.

Minimum Requirements

Education
  • Master’s Degree in:
    • Governance

    • Or a related field
