PROJECT ASSISTANT

Raising The Village (RTV)
Location: Sironko, Uganda
Employment Type: Full-Time
Travel Requirement: Up to 80%

Raising The Village (RTV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to building sustainable pathways out of ultra-poverty for last-mile communities. Through data-driven solutions, community-centered program design, and strategic partnerships, RTV works to improve household incomes, strengthen resilience, and create long-term sustainable development opportunities.
To date, Raising The Village has impacted more than two million people across Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo through innovative community development programs focused on agriculture, livelihoods, health, water, sanitation, financial inclusion, and economic empowerment.

Position Summary

The Project Assistant is responsible for supporting the implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of community development projects within assigned villages. The role involves working directly with community groups, local leaders, and households to ensure successful project delivery, community participation, and sustainability of interventions.
The successful candidate will support project implementation activities, facilitate community trainings, monitor project progress, collect field data, prepare reports, and contribute to improving livelihoods and reducing extreme poverty within target communities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Project Planning & Implementation
  • Conduct project design review meetings with partner villages and provide feedback to improve project plans and budgets before implementation.
  • Support implementation of Raising The Village project methodologies and interventions.
  • Ensure project activities are delivered according to approved work plans, timelines, and project objectives.
  • Assist in the execution of community development initiatives aimed at increasing household income and reducing extreme poverty.
  • Coordinate project activities with community stakeholders and local leadership structures.
Community Mobilization & Training
  • Coordinate and co-facilitate community training programs including:
    • Financial Literacy
    • Behaviour and Mindset Change
    • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
    • Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)
    • Agriculture Production
    • Livestock Care and Management
    • Health Outreach Programs
  • Mobilize community members to participate in project activities.
  • Strengthen community ownership and participation in project interventions.
  • Support knowledge transfer and capacity building within target communities.
Procurement & Distribution Support
  • Prepare and submit lists of required goods and services for project implementation.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of project materials.
  • Verify goods, inputs, and materials before distribution to beneficiaries.
  • Monitor proper utilization of distributed project resources.
Project Monitoring & Community Support
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project implementation and progress.
  • Provide technical support, guidance, and follow-up to community groups and households.
  • Ensure project compliance and sustainability of interventions.
  • Identify implementation challenges and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor community participation, project performance, and beneficiary engagement.
Risk Management & Problem Solving
  • Identify potential project risks, challenges, and implementation gaps.
  • Recommend mitigation measures and improvement strategies.
  • Support timely resolution of field-level issues.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for improving project effectiveness and sustainability.
Stakeholder Engagement & Community Relations
  • Conduct regular meetings with:
    • Community Leaders
    • Village Committees
    • Beneficiary Households
    • Local Stakeholders
  • Strengthen relationships between RTV and community members.
  • Gather feedback from beneficiaries regarding project performance and impact.
  • Promote positive community engagement and participation.
Reporting & Administration
  • Develop and manage project work plans.
  • Prepare and submit weekly field reports.
  • Support donor reporting and proposal development by providing field information when required.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and cluster coordination meetings.
  • Submit weekly financial requests, accountabilities, and expense reports.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
  • Collect project monitoring data and provide regular feedback to project leadership.
  • Support data collection, validation, and reporting activities.
  • Document project successes, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Take photographs and maintain visual documentation for project records and reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement of RTV methodologies and interventions.
  • Recommend activities that require review, redesign, or strengthening to improve sustainability and impact.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Officer, Project Manager, or management team.
  • Support organizational goals and community development initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects and field assignments as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in community development, project implementation, NGO programming, or related field work.
  • Strong training and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Fluency in Lugisu and other local languages spoken within project areas.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding of Community-Based Development principles.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and field conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% of the time.
  • Physically fit and able to work in challenging terrain and remote communities.
