The company provides poultry production solutions and technical support to farmers across Uganda, with a strong focus on productivity, biosecurity, and sustainable poultry farming.
Position Overview
Position: Veterinary Doctor
Duty Station: Kampala, with frequent travel to company farms and out-grower farmer locations across Uganda
Ugachick Poultry Breeders Ltd is seeking a competent, experienced, and self-driven Veterinary Doctor to support poultry health management, disease prevention, biosecurity compliance, and farmer extension services.
Job Purpose
The Veterinary Doctor will be responsible for maintaining optimal poultry health and welfare across breeder operations. The role also involves supporting out-grower farmers through training, technical advisory services, and capacity building to improve flock productivity and farm management practices.
Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain poultry health and welfare across company farms and production units.
  • Develop, implement, and supervise vaccination and disease prevention programs.
  • Enforce biosecurity protocols and ensure compliance across all farm operations.
  • Analyze flock performance data and recommend corrective health interventions.
  • Prepare veterinary reports and maintain accurate animal health records.
  • Train farm staff on poultry health management, vaccination, and biosecurity practices.
  • Conduct regular field visits to out-grower farmers and provide extension services.
  • Support farmer capacity-building programs and technical advisory initiatives.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with veterinary and animal welfare standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance poultry productivity.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from a recognized institution.
  • Must be a registered and licensed Veterinary Practitioner with the Veterinary Practitioners Council of Uganda.
  • Valid practicing license required.
  • Entry-level applicants are eligible.
  • Experience in commercial poultry, breeder operations, or extension services is an added advantage.
Required Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of poultry diseases, diagnosis, treatment, and vaccination programs.
  • Good understanding of poultry biosecurity and animal welfare standards.
  • Strong communication, training, and farmer engagement skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and maintain accurate records.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
