JOB PURPOSE
To provide strategic commercial leadership and operational oversight across multiple assigned markets within the East Africa region, ensuring achievement of revenue, profitability, market share, and customer experience objectives in line with RwandAir’s commercial strategy.
The Regional Commercial Manager will oversee regional commercial performance, lead Commercial Managers and station teams, strengthen trade and distribution partnerships, optimize market performance, and ensure successful execution of commercial priorities across the region.
The role also serves as the lead Commercial Manager for the market in which they are based, maintaining direct accountability for local market performance, stakeholder engagement, and commercial execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
• Develop and execute regional commercial strategies aligned with global sales, revenue, and network objectives.
• Analyze market trends, customer demand, competitor activity, and economic developments to recommend strategic interventions.
• Identify growth opportunities through corporate sales, trade partnerships, market expansion, and route development initiatives.
• Provide strategic input on pricing, route sustainability, market stimulation, and commercial resource allocation.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, airport authorities, tourism boards, aviation stakeholders, and corporate partners.
• Represent RwandAir in aviation forums, commercial negotiations, trade exhibitions, and stakeholder engagements.
• Strengthen brand visibility and commercial positioning through strategic partnerships.
• Support route launches, network expansion projects, market recovery plans, and frequency changes.
• Consolidate regional performance reports, forecasts, market intelligence, and strategic recommendations for executive leadership.
• Lead regional performance reviews and strategic planning sessions.
• Escalate commercial, operational, regulatory, and market risks affecting performance.
Commercial Operations & Revenue Growth
• Drive achievement of revenue, profitability, market share, yield, and load factor targets across assigned markets.
• Monitor route and point-of-sale performance and implement recovery plans for underperforming markets.
• Directly manage commercial performance within the base market.
• Lead local sales campaigns, corporate engagement, trade development, and promotional activities.
• Coach and support Commercial Managers through performance monitoring and corrective action plans.
• Drive accountability, target achievement, and business performance across all stations.
• Oversee trade, corporate, and distribution strategies to maximize revenue growth.
• Manage relationships and performance of:
  • General Sales Agents (GSAs)
  • Passenger Sales Agents (PSAs)
  • Online Travel Agencies (OTAs)
  • Corporate Accounts
  • Travel Agencies
• Monitor distribution channel effectiveness, agency productivity, direct sales growth, digital channel performance, and NDC adoption.
• Support implementation of promotional campaigns and sales activation programs.
• Identify opportunities to increase direct sales, digital sales, and corporate market penetration.
Stakeholder & Team Management
• Coordinate with Revenue Management, Network Planning, Finance, Cargo, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Airport Operations teams.
• Lead commercial recovery efforts during operational disruptions, schedule changes, geopolitical events, or crises.
• Ensure compliance with governance standards, SOPs, financial controls, audits, and company policies.
• Monitor customer experience performance and implement corrective actions.
• Lead, mentor, and develop Commercial Managers and regional commercial teams.
• Foster a culture of performance excellence, accountability, innovation, and customer focus.
• Manage regional budgets and ensure efficient resource utilization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Business Administration
  • Commerce
  • Marketing
  • Aviation Management
  • Related Field
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum 7–10 years of experience in commercial, sales, or marketing roles within the airline or aviation industry.
• At least 3 years of experience in a senior managerial or regional leadership position.
• Proven success in achieving revenue growth, market expansion, and commercial performance targets.
• Experience managing Country Managers, Station Managers, and distributed commercial teams.
• Strong experience managing aviation distribution channels including GSAs, PSAs, OTAs, GDS, and corporate accounts.
• Experience engaging with government agencies, airport authorities, tourism boards, and aviation organizations.
• Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting.
