Midwife – C-Care Uganda

Job Summary
The Midwife is responsible for providing safe, high-quality, and patient-centered maternal and newborn care, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services. The role ensures delivery of respectful, ethical, and clinically sound care in line with hospital protocols and standards, while promoting a positive patient experience.
This position supports improved maternal and newborn health outcomes within C-Care Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maternal & Newborn Care
  • Provide comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal health using clinical tools and assessments.
  • Conduct normal deliveries and assist in complicated deliveries.
  • Provide immediate newborn care, including resuscitation when required.
  • Identify high-risk pregnancies and escalate appropriately.
2. Clinical Care & Procedures
  • Perform routine examinations for mothers and newborns.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of maternity equipment.
3. Patient Management
  • Admit, monitor, and discharge mothers and newborns.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records.
  • Prepare clinical reports as required.
4. Patient Experience & Engagement
  • Provide compassionate, respectful, and dignified care.
  • Communicate clearly with mothers and families.
  • Involve patients in care decisions.
  • Offer emotional support during labor and postpartum care.
  • Respond to patient concerns professionally and promptly.
5. Health Education & Promotion
  • Educate mothers and families on pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
  • Promote safe motherhood and family planning practices.
  • Encourage exclusive breastfeeding.
6. Collaboration & Teamwork
  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, pediatricians, and healthcare teams.
  • Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Support coordinated patient care delivery.
7. Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Follow hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and quality of care.
  • Participate in audits, CMEs, and continuous professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BScM preferred).
  • Must be registered and licensed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Valid practicing license required.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in a hospital setting preferred.
