JOB DESCRIPTION: CREDIT ANALYST – CORPORATE BANKING

POSITION TITLE
Credit Analyst – Corporate Banking
JOB PURPOSE
The Credit Analyst supports the Head of Credit Analysis and Approvals in managing assigned credit portfolios by conducting detailed credit underwriting, financial analysis, and risk assessment of corporate credit applications. The role also supports Relationship Managers in structuring transactions in line with the bank’s credit policies and risk framework.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CREDIT ANALYSIS & UNDERWRITING (FINANCIAL – 40%)
  • Analyze and underwrite corporate credit proposals in line with credit policy guidelines.
  • Review financial statements including annual reports, management accounts, interim reports, and other financial data.
  • Conduct detailed credit assessments to support approval decisions.
  • Review and monitor existing credit facilities to ensure compliance and performance.
  • Prepare documentation for New Business Committee (NBC) meetings, including minutes and reports.
  • Monitor covenant compliance and maintain covenant tracking systems.
  • Identify covenant breaches, escalate issues, and recommend corrective actions.
CREDIT ADMINISTRATION & INTERNAL BUSINESS PROCESSES (30%)
  • Prepare excess requests and follow up for approvals from relevant authorities.
  • Monitor customer accounts to ensure compliance with approved credit limits.
  • Support communication between the bank, customers, and internal departments.
  • Review and recommend loan applications across various credit products.
  • Handle queries from clients, branches, credit administration, and risk teams.
  • Conduct client visits with Relationship Managers and prepare call reports.
  • Review offer letters and ensure alignment with approved credit terms.
  • Review valuation reports and identify discrepancies.
  • Contribute to credit policy reviews, product development, and process improvements.
  • Support and mentor junior credit analysts to enhance analytical capability.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (20%)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Provide timely responses to customer and internal queries.
  • Support a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and customer satisfaction.
LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT (10%)
  • Continuously improve technical and professional knowledge through training and professional development.
  • Participate in workshops, industry engagements, and professional networks.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of banking regulations and credit practices.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university (Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, or related field preferred).
  • Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, CFA are an added advantage.
  • Additional qualifications in Credit Management or Banking are beneficial.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in banking as a Credit Analyst or Relationship Manager.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk assessment, underwriting, and banking operations.
  • Experience working with corporate lending products and credit policies.
