SME Relationship Officer Job in Uganda | Banking Sales & Customer Service Role

Job Description
A financial institution is seeking a results-driven SME Relationship Officer to support business growth through sales of SME banking products, customer relationship management, and credit facilitation services.
The role focuses on building and managing SME client relationships, driving deposit mobilization, and delivering high-quality customer service while achieving assigned branch sales targets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales & Business Development
  • Sell SME assets, liabilities, and banking products to meet branch targets
  • Cross-sell banking products to existing customers
  • Conduct sales calls and gather market intelligence
  • Drive deposit mobilization for the bank
  • Support branch budget-related sales performance
2. Customer Relationship Management
  • Handle new account openings and manage existing account relationships
  • Respond to customer queries, complaints, and service feedback
  • Provide information on bank products and services to clients
  • Maintain strong SME customer relationships and retention
3. Credit & Loan Processing Support
  • Conduct initial interviews for loan applicants
  • Receive, guide, and process loan applications
  • Appraise SME loan requests and forward to Credit Reference Unit (CRU)
  • Explain loan terms and facilitate customer acceptance of offers
  • Ensure proper documentation and tracking of loan processes
4. Branch Operations & Reporting
  • Support customer service and branch operations
  • Handle banking returns, sales reports, and customer service reports
  • Record and manage customer complaints
  • Support execution of IPO-related and card-related services
  • Maintain accurate loan and account records
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field
  • Professional banking qualification is an added advantage
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in sales and customer service
  • Experience working with SME clients preferred
  • Strong understanding of banking products and services
  • Knowledge of digital financial services
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify and structure SME lending opportunities
  • Results-oriented with strong sales drive and innovation mindset
