School Improvement Officer

PEAS Uganda – Mastercard Foundation (Leaders in Teaching Project)
Job Summary
PEAS Uganda is seeking a School Improvement Officer to support the implementation of the Mastercard Foundation – Leaders in Teaching (LiT) project. The role is field-based and involves extensive travel (approximately 80%) across Uganda.
The position focuses on improving secondary education quality by working closely with school leaders, inspectors, and local government stakeholders to strengthen school performance and learning outcomes.
The officer will support school inspections, coaching, training, and implementation of School Improvement Plans (SIPs), while tracking progress against project goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. School Improvement & Planning
  • Support school inspections in line with national education standards.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of School Improvement Plans (SIPs).
  • Monitor and track progress of school improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance to schools on quality improvement strategies.
2. Coaching & Capacity Building
  • Coach and mentor school leaders, administrators, and inspectors.
  • Deliver training sessions to strengthen leadership and teaching quality.
  • Build capacity of education stakeholders to sustain school improvement efforts.
  • Support continuous professional development within participating schools.
3. Monitoring, Reporting & Data Management
  • Collect, analyse, and report data on school performance and project outcomes.
  • Track progress against project indicators and targets.
  • Support accurate and timely reporting for project implementation.
  • Contribute to evidence-based decision-making for education interventions.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with school leadership teams, inspectors, and local government officials.
  • Facilitate collaboration between schools and education authorities.
  • Support communication and coordination among stakeholders in the education system.
  • Strengthen relationships to support system-level education improvements.
Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
Experience
  • Experience in school leadership, teaching, or education management.
  • Strong understanding of Uganda’s education system and school inspection processes.
  • Experience working with schools, education programs, or NGOs is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong communication, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse education stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity.
  • Ability to work independently in field-based environments.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to 80%).
