Communications Graduate Volunteer – Medical Teams Uganda
Medical Teams Uganda holds strict child and vulnerable adult safeguarding principles and a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct related to sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse in the workplace and other places where the organization’s activities are rendered. Parallel to technical competence, recruitment and selection hiring decisions will give due emphasis to assessing candidates’ eligibility through background checks, police clearance, and professional reference check processes.

JOB SUMMARY

The Communications Graduate Volunteer works closely with field communication focal persons to capture, document and develop communications around project activities. This role also works closely with the HQ Brand and Communications team to cultivate content to be published in Medical Teams brand, marketing and fundraising channels, as well as ensure proper branding of visibility materials.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Collection & Storytelling
  •  Visit field locations to capture images, videos, and stories of impact. 
  •  Interview staff, patients, and partners (with consent) to develop compelling human-interest stories. 
  •  Process and upload photos, stories, and videos into Medical Teams’ content management systems. 
  •  Maintain and manage country camera gear. 
Branding & Visibility
  •  Ensure visibility and branding materials (signposts, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, etc.) comply with Medical Teams and donor guidelines. 
  •  Coordinate with HQ Brand and Communications team for design and compliance support. 
Communication Support
  •  Collect and edit content from the field for use in reports, proposals, newsletters, and media releases. 
  •  Update and manage the country SharePoint communications page. 
  •  Support preparation of program reports and visibility materials for institutional donors. 
  •  Assist in organizing and documenting events and campaigns. 
Capacity Building & Collaboration
  •  Support field communication focal points with guidance and training on photo and story collection. 
  •  Participate in global content community calls, trainings, and knowledge sharing. 
Safeguarding & Compliance
  •  Promote and uphold Medical Teams’ safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults. 
  •  Conduct yourself with integrity and respect, consistent with Medical Teams’ Code of Conduct. 
  •  Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Experience
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field (graduated within the past 2 years). 
  •  Experience (including internships or volunteering) in communications or related fields is an added advantage. 
  •  Photography, videography, or basic graphic design skills are desirable. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge
  •  Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, planning and strategy, and the role of mass media. 
  •  Knowledge of how to present information to different audiences. 
Skills
  •  Excellent English communication skills; highly articulate verbally and in writing. 
  •  Skilled in conducting interviews and managing relationships with media representatives and other stakeholders. 
  •  Proven writing and editing skills. 
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  •  Graphic design skills are an added advantage. 
  •  Photography and/or video skills are preferred. 
  •  Adobe Creative Suite preferred. 
  •  Skilled at producing writing products for professional publications.

  •  Ability to exercise considerable initiative to plan, organize and follow through to meet deadlines.

Compliance Graduate Intern – Medical Teams Uganda

JOB SUMMARY

The Compliance Graduate Intern will play a key role in supporting the compliance team to ensure that Medical Teams International Uganda activities are in compliance with a complex array of internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations. Under the supervision of the Internal Audit and Compliance Manager, the intern will evaluate and perform specific audit tests (routine or surprise) to confirm adherence to procedures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Support in performing already designed audit procedures for the various internal audits/compliance reviews in line with the compliance plan and gather and document evidence to support the findings. 
  •  Support ongoing review and evaluation of current Medical Teams Uganda administrative policies and procedures (HR, Finance, Program, Procurement, Vehicle, IT, etc.) to ensure compliance with global policies; identify gaps, suggest improvements, and create tools as appropriate. 
  •  Support in conducting regular and surprise cash, inventory, and asset counts/verifications in line with the guidance provided by the Internal Audit and Compliance Assistant. 
  •  Support in performing routine tasks like reconciliations and computations to assess accuracy of management reports. 
  •  Support in pre-audit of routine transactions as guided by the Internal Audit and Compliance Assistant. 
  •  Support with regular compliance review of finance and procurement files in line with the designed checklists. 
  •  Work closely with risk champions and heads of sections/facilities/field offices to generate and update the risk register. 
  •  Any other duties assigned. 

KEY DELIVERABLES

  •  Draft reports from the various assignments for review and approval. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Experience
  •  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, Business Computing, Economics, Business Management, Commerce, or related field. 
  •  CGPA above 4.0 and a maximum of Credit 3 in English and Mathematics at O’Level. 
  •  Experience (including internships or volunteering) in finance, audits, or related fields is an added advantage. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  •  Commitment to Medical Teams Calling Statement, Core Values, and Code of Conduct. 
  •  Ability to learn fast and perform various tests efficiently. 
  •  Good written and verbal communication skills.
