Africa Global Logistics – Operations / Fleet Management Role

Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Team Management & Leadership
- Manage the team (N-1) including Fleet Drivers, Workshop, and Subcontracted Transport staff.
- Inform N-1 staff of entity strategy, evolutions, and required alignments.
- Supervise and ensure proper communication across operational teams.
2. Logistics Service & Operations Planning
- Build and adapt logistics service offerings based on market situation, organizational capacity, profitability, and risk level in coordination with Sales Department and General Management.
- Receive instructions from clients (internal or external) prior to cargo delivery or collection (mainly Aid & Relief clients).
- Inform clients on delivery/collection status and alert them in case of operational issues.
- Prepare and validate operations planning based on cargo delivery/collection requests and communicate to COMs and FOPs.
- Track fleet using central GPS system and optimize utilization of transport resources.
- Generate JMP work orders from internal department requests.
3. Fleet Performance & KPI Management
- Monitor quality of service of Uganda fleet to ensure required truck turnaround and achievement of budget targets (Kenya / DRC / South Sudan).
- Track KPIs such as:
- Number of trips
- Containers delivered on time
- Trips per available truck
- Monitor operational performance and ensure service quality standards are met.
4. Client & Communication Management
- Manage operational relationships with internal departments and external clients.
- Provide timely updates to clients on delivery/collection progress.
- Alert clients and management in case of operational issues.
- Report significant operational issues affecting service quality, invoicing, or sensitive clients.
5. Cost Control & Financial Efficiency
- Drive vehicle servicing while controlling overheads and workshop costs.
- Analyze staff costs including casual labor and overtime.
- Monitor workshop costs including fuel, oil, and tyres.
- Implement cost reduction strategies such as driver training and route optimization.
- Report non-compliant quotations affecting gross margin, turnover, and feasibility.
6. Workshop Management
- Manage day-to-day workshop administration including procurement, stock control, job planning, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
- Coordinate daily workshop meetings with the Workshop Administrator.
7. Subcontracted Transport Management
- Provide subcontracted transport services for internal and external needs focusing on service delivery, profitability, and cost control.
- Select and manage subcontractors, including assessing risk profiles, financial stability, and service quality.
8. Compliance, Quality & Reporting
- Liaise with QHSE team for audit recommendations and implementation.
- Ensure proper documentation flow including POD (Proof of Delivery) and RCN records.
- Ensure compliance with URA Customs Procedures.
- Continuously identify and resolve operational issues within or outside responsibility scope.
Profile Requirements
- Minimum Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent.
- At least 5 years’ experience managing a fleet of more than 25 trucks.
- Strong knowledge of East African region logistics operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SPSS).
- Experience using fleet management software (preferably Telematics).
- Strong leadership and team supervision experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of URA Customs procedures.
