Study Coordinator (PhD Fellowship Opportunity – RECENT TB Study)

• Effectiveness of secondary TB preventive therapy (TPT)
• Strategies to reduce recurrent tuberculosis
• Use of biomarkers to identify high-risk patients

• Oversee participant recruitment, randomization, follow-up, and retention according to study protocol and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
• Ensure accurate and timely data collection, entry, validation, and management using electronic data capture systems.
• Coordinate training of study nurses, health facility staff, and community health workers in Uganda and South Africa.
• Maintain updated study documents including protocols, consent forms, and data collection tools.
• Support preparation of study reports, safety reports, and interim analyses for the Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB).
• Liaise with regulatory bodies including the IDI Ethics Committee and UNCST for compliance.
• Support monitoring visits, audits, and inspections by sponsors and regulatory authorities.
• Participate in study meetings, investigator sessions, and scientific conferences.

• Develop and register a PhD concept within Year 1 of employment.
• Submit a full doctoral research proposal by Year 2 in collaboration with academic supervisors.
• Produce at least two peer-reviewed publications by Year 4.
• Present findings at national and international scientific conferences.
• Attend required academic modules, seminars, and supervisory meetings.
• Supervise at least one master’s student by Year 4.
• Submit PhD thesis for final examination (viva voce) by Year 4.

• Report to the Scientific Lead – RECENT TB for all trial-related responsibilities.
• Report to the Capacity Building Lead and PhD supervisory committee for academic progress.
• Participate in regular performance reviews aligned with IDI frameworks and university doctoral requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB)
• Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Research, Internal Medicine, or related field
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical research or public health in Uganda
• Experience in TB, HIV, or infectious disease research is highly desirable
• At least one peer-reviewed first-author publication
• 
  

• Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap)
• Proficiency in statistical software (STATA, R, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Protection (HSP)
• Excellent scientific writing and analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
• Ability to work in multi-country research environments
• High level of integrity, organization, and attention to detail
