Job Summary

FH Association Uganda is seeking a qualified and motivated Project Assistant – Regenerative Agriculture to support the implementation of sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient food systems activities under the Improving Local Food Systems through Schools Project in Karamoja.
The successful candidate will support farmers, schools, Community-Based Facilitators (CBFs), farmer organisations, and local government extension teams in promoting regenerative agriculture practices that improve food production, restore ecosystems, and strengthen community resilience.
The role will focus on supporting regenerative agriculture demonstration sites, school gardens, community seed banks, agroforestry systems, Farmer Field Schools, and sustainable land management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Implementation of Regenerative Agriculture Interventions (40%)
The Project Assistant will:

• Support establishment and management of regenerative agriculture demonstration sites.
• Promote climate-smart and sustainable farming practices.
• Support Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) activities.
• Train farmers on soil improvement techniques including composting, mulching, green manure, and organic soil amendments.
• Support school garden development and agricultural learning activities.
• Assist with orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) vine multiplication projects.
• Promote agroforestry and biodiversity restoration practices.
• Provide technical guidance to farmer groups on sustainable crop production.

2. Community Capacity Strengthening and Farmer Support (25%)
Responsibilities include:

• Mobilising farmers, schools, and community groups for project activities.
• Facilitating Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and practical agricultural demonstrations.
• Training farmers on regenerative agriculture and climate-smart agriculture techniques.
• Supporting farmer organisations and lead farmers.
• Strengthening community knowledge on sustainable food production.
• Working closely with Community-Based Facilitators to promote adoption of improved farming practices.

3. Water Management, Landscape Restoration and Climate Resilience (20%)
The Project Assistant will:

• Support communities in implementing water harvesting technologies.
• Promote soil and water conservation approaches including:
  • Contour bunds
  • Terraces
  • Bioswales
  • Small-scale irrigation systems
• Support restoration of degraded landscapes.
• Promote climate adaptation practices among farming households.
• Strengthen community resilience against drought and environmental challenges.

4. Monitoring, Documentation and Collaboration (15%)
The successful candidate will:

• Collect field data and support project monitoring activities.
• Prepare reports on project implementation progress.
• Document success stories and lessons learned.
• Maintain accurate records of farmer trainings and field demonstrations.
• Support project evaluations and assessments.
• Collaborate with district agriculture departments and development partners.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

• Minimum of a Diploma in Agriculture in areas such as:
  • Crop Production and Management
  • Agronomy
  • Agricultural Extension
  • Agroecology
  • Related agricultural fields

A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agroecology, Agricultural Extension, or related disciplines will be an added advantage.
Additional training or certification in the following areas is desirable:

• Regenerative Agriculture
• Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA)
• Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR)
• Agroforestry
• Soil and Water Conservation
• Sustainable Land Management

Required Work Experience

Candidates should have:

• At least 2 years of experience implementing agriculture, food security, climate resilience, or natural resource management projects.
• Experience working with:
  • Farmer organisations
  • Community groups
  • Schools
  • Local government extension systems
  • NGOs and development partners

Experience facilitating community trainings and agricultural demonstrations is highly desirable.
