JOB DESCRIPTION – MAINTENANCE OFFICER

JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Officer is responsible for ensuring the hospital’s buildings, equipment, utilities, and infrastructure are maintained in a safe, functional, and efficient condition to support uninterrupted healthcare service delivery. The role involves preventive and corrective maintenance, utilities management, regulatory compliance, and asset management to ensure the smooth operation of hospital facilities.
1. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for hospital buildings, equipment, and utilities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, generators, water systems, and hospital infrastructure.
  • Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of hospital equipment and facilities.
  • Identify maintenance needs and recommend preventive measures to minimize equipment downtime.
2. CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical systems within competence levels.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and service providers for specialized repairs.
  • Ensure repairs are completed efficiently to minimize service disruptions.
3. UTILITIES MANAGEMENT
  • Monitor and maintain uninterrupted supply of electricity, water, oxygen systems, and backup power sources.
  • Conduct routine testing of generators and ensure adequate fuel levels are maintained.
  • Monitor utility consumption and recommend energy and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Ensure all utility systems operate safely and efficiently.
4. SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Support fire safety inspections and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
  • Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.
5. ASSET & INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and service schedules.
  • Monitor maintenance tools, spare parts, and supplies inventory.
  • Participate in asset verification and condition assessments.
  • Support effective management of hospital maintenance resources.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Maintenance, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a hospital, healthcare facility, hotel, or large institution.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, generator, HVAC, and building maintenance systems.
