Alight is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and people-focused professional to join its team as a Human Resources Officer based in Kampala.

Job Summary

The Human Resources Officer will support the effective management and delivery of HR services across Alight Uganda’s operations. The role is responsible for providing day-to-day HR support, ensuring compliance with HR policies, supporting recruitment processes, managing employee records, coordinating payroll activities, supporting performance management, and promoting a positive workplace culture.
The successful candidate will serve as a key HR partner, ensuring employees receive efficient support while helping the organization attract, develop, and retain talented professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources Administration
  • Manage daily HR correspondence including staff recommendations, bank letters, certificates of service, and other employee documentation.
  • Support staff with leave planning and ensure leave schedules are properly maintained.
  • Coordinate onboarding processes including email creation, system access, and staff orientation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR databases.
  • Manage staff clearance processes and ensure timely processing of terminal benefits.
  • Prepare and track employment contracts and offer letters.
  • Explain employee benefits packages and support effective benefits administration.
  • Prepare and share updated staff lists with the Office of the People team.
Recruitment and Selection
  • Coordinate recruitment processes with hiring managers in line with Alight recruitment policies.
  • Prepare and publish job advertisements through appropriate recruitment channels.
  • Maintain recruitment databases and provide regular updates on hiring progress.
  • Conduct recruitment compliance checks including reference and background verification.
  • Support effective candidate selection and onboarding processes.
  • Ensure recruitment documentation is complete and properly filed.
Payroll and Statutory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Uganda employment laws, HR policies, and statutory requirements.
  • Work closely with Finance teams to prepare accurate monthly payroll updates.
  • Support resolution of payroll-related employee queries while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Liaise with government authorities and legal advisors on employment compliance matters.
  • Promote adherence to HR standards and organizational procedures.
Performance Management and Staff Development
  • Support timely completion of employee performance reviews and appraisals.
  • Maintain updated performance management records and databases.
  • Work with supervisors to improve quality and consistency of performance evaluations.
  • Identify employee learning needs and contribute to annual training plans.
  • Support staff development initiatives that improve employee performance.
Health Insurance and Employee Benefits Management
  • Coordinate employee medical insurance programs and ensure accurate records.
  • Register eligible staff and dependents on medical insurance schemes.
  • Monitor insurance service delivery and resolve employee concerns.
  • Liaise with insurance providers regarding claims, payments, and coverage issues.
  • Manage staff additions and removals from insurance programs.
Employee Exit Management
  • Manage employee termination documentation and exit processes.
  • Prepare termination notices and ensure compliance with organizational procedures.
  • Track staff clearance processes and terminal benefit payments.
  • Support exit interviews and collect feedback to improve HR practices.
  • Ensure departing employees are removed from relevant benefit programs.
Employee Relations and Staff Wellbeing
  • Support management of disciplinary cases in line with HR policies and Uganda labor laws.
  • Handle employee grievances and workplace conflicts professionally.
  • Promote fair, transparent, and confidential complaint management processes.
  • Support initiatives that improve employee engagement and workplace experience.
  • Provide guidance to staff and managers on HR-related matters.

Qualifications and Experience

Academic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management is an added advantage.
Professional Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a Human Resources generalist role.
  • Experience managing recruitment, employee relations, payroll support, HR administration, and compliance.
  • Experience working in humanitarian, NGO, nonprofit, or international development environments is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
