JOB SUMMARY
The Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic, and comfortable hospital environment by performing cleaning and sanitation duties in line with hospital standards, infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines, and health and safety regulations. The role supports quality patient care by ensuring that all hospital areas are properly cleaned and well-maintained.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Housekeeping Assistant will ensure cleanliness and hygiene across all hospital areas including wards, offices, washrooms, corridors, and public spaces. The role involves cleaning, waste management, linen handling, and maintaining infection prevention standards to support a safe healthcare environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Clean and maintain patient rooms, wards, offices, corridors, waiting areas, and washrooms
  • Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, polish, and disinfect hospital surfaces and equipment
  • Ensure patient areas are clean, safe, and comfortable for recovery
  • Sanitize and replenish washrooms with required supplies (soap, tissue, towels, etc.)
  • Collect, segregate, and dispose of waste according to hospital waste management procedures
  • Make beds and change bed linen to maintain hygiene standards
  • Report maintenance issues, damages, and safety hazards to supervisors
  • Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols at all times
  • Properly use cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and PPE
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure proper storage of supplies
  • Replenish cleaning materials and report shortages promptly
  • Assist in room preparation before admission and after discharge
  • Respond to spillages, accidents, and emergency cleaning needs
  • Maintain cleanliness in staff areas, meeting rooms, and public spaces
  • Support laundry and linen distribution services when required
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and courtesy when interacting with patients and staff
  • Participate in training and continuous quality improvement activities

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum O-Level certificate required
  • Certificate in Housekeeping, Hospitality, or related field is an added advantage
  • At least 1 year of housekeeping or cleaning experience in a hospital, hotel, or similar institution
  • Experience in a healthcare environment is an added advantage
  • Training in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is desirable
