VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT – FIELD OFFICER

Organization: GiveDirectly
Location: Kaliro District, Uganda
Reports To: Associate Field Manager
Contract Type: Field-Based, Short-Term Contract (5 Months)

Overview
The Field Officer will play a critical role in delivering GiveDirectly’s cash transfer program to recipients and donors. The role involves executing field activities including surveys, registrations, follow-ups, and supporting community engagement processes.
The Field Officer will be responsible for carrying out accurate recipient surveys and associated processes that enable GiveDirectly’s cash transfer model. The role requires strong judgment, communication skills, integrity, work ethic, and commitment to the organization’s mission.
Core Responsibilities
Census Team
  • Conduct barazas to explain GiveDirectly’s program to villages before census surveys and answer questions.
  • Explain program details to eligible households.
  • Engage village elders and guides to understand boundaries.
  • Visit every household in assigned villages without omission.
  • Conduct accurate census surveys using digital tools.
Registration Team
  • Provide phones where necessary to recipients.
  • Ensure households can operate phones to access transfers.
  • Identify and eliminate ineligible households.
  • Conduct accurate registration surveys using digital tools.
  • Reinforce program information to eligible households.
  • Explain safety and readiness guidelines for cash transfers.
Follow-Up Team
  • Conduct follow-up surveys via phone or field visits to confirm receipt of transfers and collect program data.
  • Handle hotline calls from recipients and resolve inquiries or escalate issues.
  • Support resolution of registration problems (e.g., mobile money registration issues or incorrect names).
  • Report and escalate adverse events such as household conflicts, rumors, or reports of bribery.
Desired Qualifications
  • Language requirement: Lulamogi (mandatory) and Lugwere.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 1 year experience in the humanitarian sector.
  • Experience working with vulnerable communities (1–2 years minimum preferred).
  • Ability to use digital data collection tools (CommCare, Salesforce, Google Suite).
  • Strong empathy, honesty, and integrity.
  • Strong interest in GiveDirectly’s mission and values.
  • Good judgment and patience in resolving recipient issues.
  • Physical fitness to work in challenging field conditions.
