Job Summary

The Depot Site Manager will be responsible for the safe, efficient, commercially disciplined, and cost-effective management of Maersk’s Uganda depot sites.
The role oversees daily depot execution, employee leadership, HSSE performance, equipment flow, operational discipline, customer satisfaction, cost control, and depot Profit and Loss (P&L) performance.
As the senior local representative for Local Products in Uganda, the Depot Site Manager will also support coordination across Depot, Customs House Brokerage (CHB), and Landside Transport operations by managing stakeholder engagement, operational escalations, workflow governance, and cross-functional collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

Depot Operations and Execution
The successful candidate will:
  • Manage daily depot operations across Uganda depot locations.
  • Ensure operational processes follow approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), customer requirements, and Maersk standards.
  • Maintain effective control over equipment handling and movement.
  • Ensure accurate equipment inventory and stock management.
  • Monitor real-time operational updates and documentation.
  • Manage long-standing equipment units and operational challenges.
  • Identify root causes of operational problems and implement permanent solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance depot performance.
Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Management
  • Provide strong safety leadership across Uganda depot sites.
  • Promote a zero-fatality safety culture.
  • Encourage proactive safety observations and hazard reporting.
  • Ensure proper incident reporting and corrective action implementation.
  • Maintain compliance with Maersk HSSE standards.
  • Ensure depot activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Promote safe working practices among employees, contractors, and partners.
People Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop depot employees.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards.
  • Build a motivated and high-performing site team.
  • Support employee onboarding and training.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback.
  • Approve leave requests within the delegated authority framework.
  • Encourage teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Financial and Commercial Performance
  • Take ownership of depot Profit and Loss (P&L) performance.
  • Drive cost control and operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and productivity improvement.
  • Protect contribution margins through effective resource management.
  • Support commercial initiatives and customer solutions.
  • Work with regional leadership to achieve operational targets.
  • Monitor financial performance against agreed business objectives.
Country Local Product Coordination
The role will support coordination between Uganda Local Products including:
  • Depot Operations.
  • Customs House Brokerage (CHB).
  • Landside Transport.
Responsibilities include:
  • Act as the senior in-country Local Product representative.
  • Support alignment between Uganda teams, Area Product owners, and business stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Customer Experience, Finance, Equipment, Ocean teams, customers, vendors, and government authorities.
  • Support resolution of operational escalations.
  • Ensure issues are properly tracked, assigned, and resolved.
  • Promote effective workflow governance and SOP compliance.
  • Support implementation of regional improvement initiatives.
  • Identify operational risks, service failures, and customer concerns.
  • Escalate major issues with clear analysis and recommended solutions.
  • Represent Uganda Local Products during relevant business discussions.
