About the Role

J. Samuel Richards & Associates is recruiting on behalf of a leading security services company for an experienced and results-driven Credit Controller.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing credit control operations, strengthening debt recovery processes, improving cash flow performance, and ensuring effective management of customer receivables.
The role requires a highly organised finance professional who can manage large debtor portfolios, monitor customer payment behaviour, resolve billing challenges, and implement strong credit management practices to reduce outstanding debts and improve revenue collection.

Job Purpose

The Credit Controller will lead the organisation’s credit management and debt recovery function by ensuring timely collection of outstanding customer balances, accurate billing, effective credit risk assessment, and strong reporting systems.
The role will support improved liquidity, minimise credit losses, and strengthen customer accountability through effective credit policies, reconciliation processes, and recovery strategies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Policy Implementation
  • Implement approved credit control policies covering customer onboarding, credit limits, billing, collections, escalation procedures, provisioning, and write-offs.
  • Ensure customers comply with agreed payment terms and credit conditions.
  • Review and improve credit management processes to enhance cash flow performance.
  • Maintain accurate customer credit records and documentation.
2. Debtor Management & Debt Recovery
  • Maintain accurate debtor ageing reports, including accounts outstanding for 180+ days.
  • Lead customer follow-ups and collection activities to recover outstanding payments.
  • Develop recovery plans for major debtors and monitor progress.
  • Negotiate payment plans and track customer commitments through promise-to-pay schedules.
  • Escalate overdue accounts appropriately and recommend recovery actions.
3. Billing & Account Reconciliation
  • Monitor invoicing accuracy and ensure timely billing of customers.
  • Conduct customer account reconciliations and resolve outstanding balances.
  • Work closely with Finance, Sales, and Operations teams to address billing disputes.
  • Maintain complete customer credit files, including agreements, invoices, statements, and payment records.
4. Credit Risk Assessment
  • Evaluate customer creditworthiness and recommend appropriate credit terms.
  • Assess customer risks and recommend measures such as:
    • Credit limits.
    • Security deposits.
    • Guarantees.
    • Cash-before-service arrangements.
  • Monitor customer payment patterns and recommend corrective actions.
5. Financial Reporting & Forecasting
  • Prepare weekly collection reports and cash flow forecasts.
  • Provide accurate debtor analysis and recovery updates to management.
  • Monitor collection performance against targets.
  • Prepare evidence-based recommendations for provisions and bad debt write-offs.
6. Legal Recovery & Compliance Support
  • Prepare documentation required for legal recovery processes.
  • Support preparation of recovery packs for disputed or high-risk accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and credit management procedures.
  • Maintain proper records for audit purposes.
7. Team Supervision & Coordination
  • Supervise credit collection staff and provide guidance on recovery activities.
  • Monitor team performance and support achievement of collection targets.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Sales, and Operations teams to improve customer payment discipline.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA Uganda, credit management certification, or progress towards a professional qualification is an added advantage.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in:
    • Credit control.
    • Accounts receivable management.
    • Debt recovery.
    • Revenue assurance.
    • Commercial finance.
  • Demonstrated experience managing:
    • Large debtor portfolios.
    • Aged receivables.
    • Customer reconciliations.
    • Debt recovery plans.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Invoicing processes.
    • VAT documentation.
    • Customer statements.
    • Debt collection procedures.
    • Financial reporting.
  • Experience in industries such as:
    • Security services.
