JOB DESCRIPTION: AGRONOMIST – NILE BREWERIES LIMITED
Job Overview
Nile Breweries Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Agronomist to support sustainable agricultural production by improving crop yield, quality, and farmer productivity. The Agronomist will focus on barley production, agronomy research, farmer extension services, field trials, and sustainable sourcing practices.
The successful candidate will work closely with farmers, research teams, suppliers, and agricultural stakeholders to implement best farming practices, improve crop performance, and ensure consistent supply of high-quality raw materials.

Key Responsibilities

1. Agricultural Research & Field Trials
  • Plan and manage agricultural research trials, demonstration plots, and crop improvement projects.
  • Conduct variety testing and evaluate crop performance under different farming conditions.
  • Collect and analyze field data to identify improved farming techniques.
  • Develop and recommend best agronomic practices for farmers.
2. Crop Yield & Quality Improvement
  • Monitor barley production performance and identify factors affecting yield and quality.
  • Provide technical solutions to improve crop productivity and reduce production costs.
  • Support farmers in adopting improved seed varieties, fertilizers, and crop management techniques.
  • Conduct field assessments and provide recommendations for improved harvest outcomes.
3. Farmer Training & Extension Support
  • Provide technical training and coaching to farmers on modern agricultural practices.
  • Conduct farm visits, field demonstrations, and farmer engagement sessions.
  • Promote sustainable farming practices and responsible use of agricultural inputs.
  • Support farmer groups with knowledge transfer and capacity building.
4. Seasonal Crop Planning & Monitoring
  • Support agricultural production planning including seed distribution, planting schedules, and crop monitoring.
  • Track crop progress throughout the growing season.
  • Prepare production forecasts and provide reports on crop performance.
  • Identify risks affecting agricultural production and recommend solutions.
5. Data Management & Reporting
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze agricultural production data.
  • Prepare reports on crop performance, sustainability, and farmer engagement activities.
  • Monitor progress against production targets and recommend improvement actions.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and responsible sourcing programs.
6. Stakeholder Management
  • Build strong relationships with farmers, aggregators, community leaders, and agricultural partners.
  • Coordinate with research institutions and agricultural organizations.
  • Support collaboration between farmers, production teams, and company stakeholders.
7. Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve crop productivity, quality, and farming efficiency.
  • Introduce innovative agricultural practices.
  • Support development of long-term agricultural strategies.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Extension, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in agronomy, crop production, or agricultural extension services.
  • Experience working with cereal crops, especially barley, is an added advantage.
  • Experience managing farmer training programs and demonstration plots.
  • Knowledge of agricultural inputs, agrochemicals, and farming equipment.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing agricultural data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and digital data collection tools.
  • Strong communication and farmer engagement skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently to farming areas.
  • Valid motorcycle driving licence is an added advantage.
