Accounts Trainee – Job Description

Job Overview
BondRich Advisory Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Trainee to join its finance team in Kampala, Uganda. This internship opportunity is designed for recent graduates who want to build practical experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, taxation, payroll processing, and financial management within a professional services environment.
The successful candidate will support daily accounting operations while gaining hands-on exposure to financial systems, reporting procedures, compliance requirements, and audit processes.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Records Management
  • Assist in maintaining accurate accounting records and financial documentation.
  • Process invoices, receipts, payments, and journal entries.
  • Support daily bookkeeping activities and ensure transactions are properly recorded.
  • Maintain organized financial files and supporting documents.
  • Assist in updating accounting systems and financial databases.
Financial Reporting and Reconciliations
  • Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Assist in preparing management accounts and financial summaries.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and investigate transaction discrepancies.
  • Verify general ledger entries for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support preparation of financial schedules for reporting purposes.
Budgeting and Financial Analysis
  • Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Support financial analysis for internal and client projects.
  • Monitor income and expenditure records.
  • Provide accurate financial information to support decision-making.
Payroll and Tax Support
  • Assist in payroll preparation by reviewing timesheets and employee records.
  • Support calculation of payroll deductions and preparation of payslips.
  • Assist with preparation of statutory tax documents including:
    • VAT returns
    • PAYE submissions
    • Withholding Tax (WHT) documentation
  • Ensure financial records comply with statutory requirements.
Audit and Compliance Support
  • Support internal and external audit activities.
  • Prepare requested financial documents and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure proper documentation of financial transactions.
  • Assist in improving accounting procedures and controls.
Accounts Receivable and Payable Support
  • Monitor outstanding customer balances.
  • Assist with supplier payment processing.
  • Follow up on pending invoices and payment records.
  • Maintain accurate payable and receivable information.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Commerce
    • Business Administration (Accounting option)
    • Related financial disciplines
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous internship or accounting attachment experience is an added advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Understanding of financial reporting procedures.
  • Strong numerical and analytical abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel including:
    • Pivot Tables
    • VLOOKUP functions
    • Data analysis
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as:
    • Tally ERP
    • QuickBooks
    • Sage
    • Other ERP systems
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling financial information.
