As the company continues to expand its operations, Marakwet Organic Farm is seeking a competent, ethical, and detail-oriented Accountant to join its finance team at its Bugolobi office.

Job Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, ensuring statutory compliance, processing payments, reconciling accounts, and supporting budgeting and audit processes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in safeguarding the company's financial integrity while ensuring compliance with Ugandan accounting standards and tax regulations.
This position is ideal for professionals with experience in financial accounting, bookkeeping, tax compliance, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and accounting software such as Zoho Books.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting and Bookkeeping
  • Prepare and issue invoices and credit notes.
  • Record financial transactions accurately in Zoho Books and manual records.
  • Maintain complete and accurate accounting records.
  • Organize and update financial documentation monthly.
  • Ensure financial data integrity and accuracy.
2. Bank and Account Reconciliations
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile supplier accounts.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Examine bank statements and reconcile them with the general ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies promptly.
3. Tax and Statutory Compliance
  • Prepare and submit weekly VAT reports.
  • Prepare tax returns and statutory filings.
  • Ensure timely payment of taxes and statutory obligations.
  • Maintain compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) regulations.
  • Keep up to date with changes in Ugandan tax laws.
4. Accounts Receivable and Collections
  • Follow up on outstanding customer payments.
  • Share customer statements of account twice monthly.
  • Monitor collections and maintain accurate receivable records.
  • Prepare weekly reports on collections received.
5. Accounts Payable and Payments
  • Process supplier payments on time.
  • Monitor payment schedules.
  • Prepare weekly reports on supplier payments.
  • Verify supplier invoices before payment processing.
6. Financial Reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial reports.
  • Produce management reports for decision-making.
  • Review financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support financial analysis and business performance reporting.
7. Audit and Budget Support
  • Prepare documentation required for external audits.
  • Support annual budgeting and financial planning.
  • Assist management during audit processes.
  • Strengthen internal financial controls and reporting procedures.
8. Expense Management
  • Review and verify employee expense claims.
  • Ensure expenses comply with company policies.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all expenditures.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess:
  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Commerce
    • Business Administration (Finance or Accounting Option)
    • Related discipline
Professional qualifications are an added advantage:
  • CPA (Level II or above)
  • ACCA
  • Equivalent accounting certification
Applicants should have:
  • Minimum of 2 years' accounting experience
  • Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, or agribusiness environments
  • Proficiency in Zoho Books or similar accounting software
  • Good knowledge of Ugandan tax laws and statutory compliance
