Mastercard Foundation Scholarships
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is one of the largest scholarship programmes in Africa, providing fully funded opportunities for academically talented but economically disadvantaged students.
Makerere University β Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
UgandaMakerere University is offering 245 Undergraduate and 13 Master's scholarships under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Eligibility:
- Ugandan nationals, refugees, IDPs, persons with disabilities, or youth from underrepresented ethnic groups
- Must have applied for admission to Makerere University main campus for 2026/2027
- Must be 35 years or younger (40 for refugees and persons with disabilities)
- Must demonstrate leadership and/or community service
- Not a holder of any other scholarship
Gender: 70% reserved for young women, 30% for young men. 25% for refugees and IDPs.

FAWE Uganda β Mastercard Foundation Bursaries
UgandaFAWE Uganda, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering 600 bursaries for the 2026/2027 academic year targeting underrepresented youth.
Eligibility:
- Ugandan nationals aged 18β25 years (30 for refugees and persons with disabilities)
- Completed Senior Four or Senior Six between 2022 and 2025
- Born in and residing in one of 65 target districts
- Not a beneficiary of any other scholarship
- 80% of bursaries reserved for female applicants

Mastercard Foundation β Africa Climate Collaborative
Pan-Africa50 Master's and 12 PhD scholarship opportunities under the Africa Climate Collaborative for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Focuses on climate change and sustainability studies.
Government of Uganda Scholarships
Government Sponsorship β Undergraduate & Diploma
UgandaThe government will sponsor 4,000 students at various public universities in the 2026/2027 academic year. Makerere University received the largest allocation with 1,672 slots.
Over 36,000 students applied for diploma scholarships, with only 4,000 (11%) receiving support.
Application: Apply through the Ministry of Education and Sports or directly through public universities. Government scholarship slots are also available through the Diploma Holder Scheme.
Students' Loan Scheme 2026/2027
UgandaThe government has officially opened applications for the 2026/2027 Students' Loan Scheme, designed to support academically qualified but financially disadvantaged Ugandans pursuing higher education.

UK Scholarships
Chevening Scholarships
UKChevening is the UK Government's prestigious international scholarship programme. Applications for 2026-2027 Chevening Scholarships are now closed.
What's included: Full tuition fees, monthly stipend, travel costs to and from the UK, arrival and departure allowances, visa application fee, and travel grant to attend Chevening events.

Commonwealth Scholarships
UKApplications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandan scholars to pursue studies at PhD and Master's levels in UK universities for the 2026/2027 Academic Year.
Scholarships cover tuition fees, airfare, stipend (Β£1,378 per month, or Β£1,690 for London-based universities), study travel grant, and warm clothing allowance.
Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are also available for full-time Master's study on selected courses, jointly supported by UK universities.
Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships
UKDistance learning scholarships for students from Commonwealth countries, including Uganda. Covers full tuition fees but no other expenses.
German Scholarships (DAAD)
DAAD "Leadership for Africa" Programme
GermanyThe "Leadership for Africa" (LfA) programme supports the academic qualification of young refugees and national scholars from Uganda at higher education institutions in Germany.
Eligibility:
- Ugandan citizens or refugees with refugee status in Uganda
- Completed Bachelor's degree at the time of application
- All fields except Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Fine Arts, Architecture, Nursing, Midwifery
What's included:
- German language course (up to 6 months) in Germany
- Monthly scholarship payments of β¬992
- Health, accident, and liability insurance
- Travel allowance and yearly study allowance

DAAD STEM Master's Scholarships
GermanyFully funded Master's scholarships in STEM subjects at German universities for students from developing and emerging countries.

Chinese Government Scholarships
Chinese Government Scholarships 2026/2027
ChinaApplications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandan scholars to pursue studies at Masters and Undergraduate levels in Chinese Universities for the 2026/2027 Academic Year.
Eligibility:
- Undergraduate: Minimum of 'C' in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; completed A-Level in 2023 or 2024
- Master's: Minimum CGPA of 3.60 in relevant field; at least two years working experience
- Age: Max 25 for Undergraduate, 35 for Master's, 40 for PhD
- Must have a valid biometric passport
- Not currently on a Government Scholarship/Sponsorship

China MOFCOM Scholarship 2026/2027
ChinaUganda has opened applications for the China MOFCOM Scholarship 2026/2027. The programme covers PhD and Master's studies in multiple fields.
US Scholarships
Fulbright Foreign Student Program
USAProvides an opportunity for Ugandans to pursue an advanced degree, non-degree, or research program in the United States in all fields except clinical medicine.
Eligibility:
- Ugandan citizens
- Bachelor's degree equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree (4 years)
- Minimum of three years of teaching or working experience
- Commitment to return to work in Uganda upon completion
Covers up to two years of master's degree study.

Eligibility: Ugandan citizens who are public officers or publiclyβaffiliated officers, nominated by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Airtel Africa Foundation Tech Fellowship
UgandaFully funded scholarships worth over UGX 3.85 billion for 20 students to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree programmes at Ugandan universities.
